This was on that extrem stormy day... compared to the pictures before those were really high waves...

This one, I guess it was Heringsdorf... it was on one of those stormy days and usually the water only came to where I put that arrow... so it was really story, as you can see...

This was on one of my last days where you can see how far the water came when it was so stormy (because it couldn't go back completely)

Sorry if I change the discussion subject...but I just want to say that sometimes indifference is the best weapon. As French say, "a bon entendeur, demis mot".

DIBOW - Hope you feel better soon. A cold is never nice, I hope it passes soon.

Me, I'm just really tired right now. I probably shouldn't have gone out yesterday, but I just wanted to, even though I had to be at school for my internship 9:00 AM. And I really wanted to enjoy the great weather today (27°C *happy dance*), but I never got a chance. I have been in the lab until 6:30 PM today and by the time I was home and finished dinner, it started cooling down already.
So please cross your fingers for nice weather and a nice early finish of my labwork tomorrow (cause I have to start a PCR again, untill I get the right result), so I can enjoy the nice weahter while it lasts.

^ lol. Since I don't know your actual name, I'll call you DIBOW from now one :p.
And the finger crossing didn't really work. I got out of school at 6:00 PM.. We did two PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction, you really don't want to hear the explanation) and none of them gave the wanted result. We actually didn't get any result at all. I did get to enjoy some sun today, because PCR means waiting a lot, but I still am frustrated because things aren't going the way I want them too..

But, on the up side of things, it's finally weekend, and I don't have class on Monday, so I can destress for three entire days :D. And we put out the swimming pool today, so I can really enjoy the weather :D..

@Loor: An advice from a Chemist: get used to it... With those kind of reactions... well with all kinds of reaction you try... usually 99 fail until you got one working... that's the life of a scientist...
But I know how you feel, I really do!

@ Chrissy : I get that. I kind off expect that. I know a lot of different things can go wrong with these kind of reactions.
But our mentor told us on Friday that we absolutely need a good PCR product Wednesday, because then we will be starting with the next part of our project, so there's quite some pressure right now.
It' s not even the constant failing that bothers me, it's more my * of a mentor. In two weeks, I saw him three times. One of those times was with the first PCR we started. He handed us all the stuff we needed and when we checked the results the next day, it gave nothing. So we called him and his reaction was : "Oh yeah, that's probably because the Taq Polymerase wasn't good anymore. It had to be used before 2007 (!) but I thought it would maybe still work.."
And then we did a second PCR with new Taq and off course it worked. So we started the new part of our project for which we did 4 PCR reactions so far, that all went wrong and when we call him, he'll be like : "Euhm.. Well.. You could try this.." without any explanation or without him coming over to see what may have gone wrong.
Plus he always acts like we have no life and nothing but time on our hands. Like next Tuesday, he expects us to do a RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis and a new PCR. All in one afternoon that is, because we have classes until 10:30 and we need to isolate cells and stuff, which probably will keep us busy until noon.

Okay, rambling right now. I'm just pretty frustrated when I think about it.
Luckily, I have an extra day of tomorrow and I'm thinking off jumping in the pool or going to have a drink with a friend in the afternoon, to calm down a little bit :).

Loor: ughhh... yeah I know those kind of guys, too... I hope you can get this done, through...
You know we once had one guy for watching out practical work who liked to see us fail... it was like he was standing behind us, watching over our shoulders makign us nerovus... and then we did something wrong, simply because no one told us that we can't do think this way, and then he says: "Well I could have told you that this wouldn't work, but you didn't ask." Well but if we asked he'd say: "Why do you ask me? Don't you know those tings yourself..." *grrrrrrr* I hate those guys... Really people in a position like this should have taking a class in "How to become a teacher" or something...

Ok..I think I have to tell this, cause I was so flattered and humbled the day it happened.
I went to the course last Friday and after that I went to the restaurant where my friend Angelo works. He knew I was going there, cause I told him the day before and I was planning to stop there for lunch cause I have been paid and just cashed the check, so I had a bit of money to spend.
I went there, sat down with him and the crew of the restaurant while they were having lunch and chatted a bit. Lately I sat down at my table and I was waiting for my lunch (that I had already ordered to the chef) to arrive, when Angelo came to me and told me "You're my guest today!".
I already understood what he was planning to do: paying my lunch. I was a bit embarassed cause it didn't seem fair to me (he works a lot and I felt like I was abusing of his friendship), but he was so proud of that, I had to accept, even though I told him it was unnecessary...but I didn't want to hurt his feelings..he was so nice and looked so proud of that...
Of course, I went there with the purpose of inviting him to my birthday and having him as my guest (at lunch or dinner) so I told him and he laughed, cause he thought was a way to pay him back...
Anyway, I am so flattered of the way he showed me his friendship, cause I didn't expect it at all...it was really sweet of him and I hope he'll be here for my birthday...
That's for sure, I've got quite a great friend in him, haven't I?
