"The Ultimate Gift" Discussion

Postby Kelly on Thu Mar 08, 2007 4:55 pm

Thought I would create a new thread to discuss the film when it releases tomorrow! I am planning on seeing the first showing in my area at 11 AM. I've adored Drew since April 2003, and after all these years I will finally get to see him on the big screen. Can't wait! :D

I already bought my ticket!

Postby Deux on Thu Mar 08, 2007 9:19 pm

The chick in the box office thought I was crazy. She forgot to mute her mike and as I walked away I heard her asking her coworkers about TUG!

My showing isn't until after work. It'll be really hard to sit through the day without checking this thread.

I've been plugging the movie everywhere I go all week. I plan to stand around outside and shamelessy push wishy washies to buy tickets.

Hope I still get a chance to see it, after I've seen those parts on the site, I can't wait 'til the dvd..

To those who will be able to watch it : Enjoy Drew on the big screen and please come and tell us how it was !

ok...am back from the very first screening of TUG...and I have to say...OMG OMG OMG...

First, it was very busy...nearly full..and not a dry eye in the theatre.

Drew was amazing...I can't even tell you...the hospital scenes, scenes at the end with Red, and scenes about his father...god I couldn't stop crying. I think this is the first movie you really see..and I mean really see Drew cry. It was like he really was Jason...and to watch him..it was so real...and you could see all that really happening. He was so moving..and I think this is hands down his best movie by far. He has progressed to a new level with this.

Ali Hillis was so amazing too...I love the scenes with her and Abby and with Drew as well...what a great pairing for this movie.

Brian Dennehy and James Garner...every scene they were in..stole the moment. Legends in their own right...and wonderful choices for their roles.

Bill Cobbs and Lee Merriwether...amazing...can't say it enough...

Movie had some nice surprises in it..and when the 2 hours was up..I couldn't believe it...the only thing I didn't like was the rush into Emily's death...but that is how it often is with life. One minute they're there..then they're gone. The ending left it open for Stovall's next novel The Ultimate Life to pick up...I can't wait to see how that turns out...

I will do everything I can to find this movie...and if I do..will let you guys know so those that can't see it in the movies..can see it on your computer. This is a must for everyone...and God I can't say it enough...well done Drew..it was the BEST!!!

I just came back from seeing TUG! There were only 9 people in the theater, but it was only 11 AM on a Friday morning, so that was understandable. Drew did such an amazing job. It's amazing to see how far he has come as an actor since he first appeared on Black Sash and Charmed. I loved the scenes between him and Abigail, they were so heartfelt and they provided lots of the comedy too!

I rarely like all the main characters in movies, but with TUG I loved every single one of them. Ali and Drew have such great chemistry, I hope they do another movie as they were great together. Have I mentioned Drew looked so gorgeous in the movie!? It was so awesome to see him on such a HUGE screen. I can't wait till it comes out on DVD so I can capture it! Kudos to the TUG cast and crew! If you can see this movie, go see it. Tell all your friends, talk to strangers, pass out flyers, post flyers, call radio stations, let's get this movie to #1!

Must see again...

Postby Deux on Sat Mar 10, 2007 4:00 pm

I saw the movie at the premier theatre in my area. The theater was really small, but it was almost full.

I think there were at least two groups of women who came together to see it. We bawled, we laughed hysterically, and we gasped collectively. The synergy was incredible. I didn't hear a single negative remark from anyone.

This story is really incredible. I was so sfraid it was going to turn into a total chick flick; but it managed to avoid the pitfalls.

Abigail brought me to tears several times. She is one * of a child actress. Everyone was so real, so in the moment. Even the bit parts were so much a part of the world you'd forget yourself. I got lost in this movie and I think I'll have to watch it many more times to find my way back home.

Our boy was amazing. Right there with the sudience, driving the story forward and kicking *!

I'm going back tonight to see the late show. This time I'm bringing tissues. Hopefully I'll get through ten minutes without crying.

They did rather rush through Abigail's death. I blame the editing process. But the scene in the chapel ripped my heart in two.

It sounds amazing - I've been reading some of the critics' reviews on the TUG website and it certainly sounds like Drew has turned in a fine performance and held his own alongside his more experienced co-stars.

I hope it makes it to cinemas in the UK before too long.

I so can't wait. Unfortunately its not at the one downtown where I saw the Queen for the second time in, so I would have to go to the one in Coral Springs. Don't tell me how Emily dies. LOL I wanna see for myself. I saw the pics though and it made me wanna see the movie so I can't wait!

so to update everyone...TUG opened at number 13 in the US which is pretty good considering it was only premiered at a little over 800 theatres...and it grossed $1.24 million...which is nice...also noticed Drew and TUG both had a HUGE increase in hits on IMDB....hopefully after this weekend it will be up in the top 10!!
