Again with the double post... Sorry... Anywho, since I haven't had the chance to go through my pics yet, I thought I'd still give you a little something of the seals. Here are three videos I took with my parents digital video camera.

These are two different baby seals. They were near the main wharf downtown. The first video has one of the pups, the other two have the second. You can hear the baby seal crying at times. They sometimes sound like they are saying "Momma". lol Pictures will follow in the next few days.

thanks Simo, Jen, Chrissy...although the waterfall pics are Jelly's...unfortunately my camera battery was out a quarter of the way into it. My uncle, aunt and cousin also came with us. It was the first time I had seen them in 15 years! It was sooo much fun. I was really sad to leave yesterday. I love Jelly's family and they treat me like I am one of their girls Mama Wendy was sending me pics of all of them while I was waiting during my flight delay...truly, truly happy to have met Jelly...I can't say it enough

@Kim: I hate it when that happens! I don't know how many times I've gone out to take pictures, and my battery died because I forgot to check it and didn't bring a spare with me.

Okay, here are a few pictures... Not the seals, yet. I'm on those when I'm done here. Anyway, I thought I'd show you a few comparison pictures, since this year has been very strange weather wise...

So, in this one, I took it on April 4, 2008. Yes, 2008. I apparently didn't take any in the winter of 2009, but you still get the picture... See how much snow we still had?


Now this one was taken about two and a half weeks ago, on February 19, 2010... See the difference? lol Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture on my bday. There was a bit of snow since it snowed all weekend, but we're almost back to that again. lol


And now for the backyard... Okay, this one isn't exactly the back yard, but apparently I didn't take any with the water frozen over. This one was taken in town on March 25, 2007... Again, it's been a long time, but it's still relevant.


And now, again on February 19, 2010... See the difference? The water is wide open.


Now the reason for the last two has to do with why the seals came in. We've seen seals in our waters from time to time, but mostly only a few at a time. Now because the water didn't freeze over, the ice flows the seals were on were able to come into our town. And I have to say, with the water wide open, this winter has been rather exciting in our town. What with the shanties floating out to sea (and the subsequent rescue of the fishermen), the mill catching fire (though it didn't cause much damage, and I was too late to get any pictures), and finally the seals drifting in. And those pictures will follow, probably in batches, and maybe a few later today.

The first five were taken at one end of town near our lighthouse. So I couldn't get too close, and my lens wasn't long enough to get any real close shots.

Okay, first picture... Mommy and pup. Aren't they cute? I think baby was feeding as well...


Yes, all those little black sluglike things are seals. lol

If it had been sunny, I would have said this little guy (or girl) was sunning him (her) self... A lot of the pups stayed very still, not moving, for quite a while, causing some people to think they were dead. Then they'd go and turn around or move a fin, and everyone would be relieved.


The next eight were taken at the other end of town at the main shipping wharf, so I was able to get a lot closer. At some times, the tide would bring the ice flows right up against the dock, and the seals would be as close as 10 meters (30 feet) from us!

Here's another mom and pup... The pup was rolling in the snow. You can just see him on his back. lol

And a cute little pup who'd been hidding behind a snow bank when his ice was next to the wharf, then moved out once the ice was clear of the dock.


Still the same pup. But I find he looks a little bit like a polar bear cub in this one. lol
